Sometimes, shit gets rough. When your sitting on your bed eating butter as a meal, in the same jeans you’ve slept in for three days, surrounded by a fortress of washing that is emitting a stench which is quite unique, hair caked to your face with grease due to a lack of showering as your hot water tank burst and flooded the entire bottom floor of your house, all the while failing uni and coming to the realisation that you are ultimately alone in this world, you begin to wonder-is this it?
Is this what people in real life deal with?
Is dealing with these banal realities that life catapults your way, ‘adulthood’ and if so, do I want in? Do I want to start washing those wet towels, maybe put down the butter and run a comb through my hair? Not right now, no. I’d much rather forget all this bullshit, put on a nice frock, drink myself into submission, dance like a smack-addled lunatic with some pals and make some memories which are more than often outweighed by regrets.
A place that will aid me in running from the impending doom of my maturity- Lambda. You’ll probably see me there, wilted in a corner, dribbling beer from an etched in cup, missing an item of clothing*, humming to myself ‘I’m not a girl, not yet a woman’ (those wise words of Britney that only now, I truly understand).
*Last week I lost a most treasured item of mine, my Teenage Ninja Turtles jumper that says ‘Cowabunga Dude’ upon it and seriously, if anyone has seen it I will pay large amounts of nothing to get it back. All I’ve got to give is my friendship and a spoonful of butter to give as a reward.
ED’S NOTE: If you have Megan’s jumper and are willing to cough it up, we will give you and your friends 5 double passes to Lambda which will include all the free pizza, cheap drinks and good times you could possible hope for in one awesome filled night!!!!!
This week Lambda’s resident DJs James W. and the super cute Young Men Dead DJs (Brisbane duo who are Triple J’s feature artist this week!) who are fresh from playing Splendour 2010. There will also be a special guest DJ set from regular Lambda guests MOSES GUNN COLLECTIVE.
Brisbane dancey band ELKE will be headlining the massive night, with support from DISCO NAP who are all but ready to drop their debut album later on this month.
Sounds pretty good huh? If you don’t have her jumper but would also like to win a double pass please email peny@penylane.com with ‘BRITNEY’ in the header and it could be yours. Winners will be notified Thursday morning.
